<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;">In our daily lives, we come across a lot of things which we don’t pay heed to; however, they are sometimes capable of bringing in a huge impact on our present as well as future. I gave a thought to it after personally experiencing a few services from a few companies recently.</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">The <b>first example</b> is that of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-commerce" style="color: #4d469c; text-decoration-line: none;"><b>eCommerce</b></a> industry. I ordered a book online. As soon as, I ordered, I received a message and was informed to track my order. I followed the instruction. My order got dispatched and then shipped. The delivery boy came home and as soon as I paid him the amount and signed on his phone, I got a message saying the item is delivered to me.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">The <b>second example</b> I would site is of a cab I booked. As soon as I booked a cab, I got a message with the number of the driver. Immediately the driver called me and informed me about his location at that time and the duration he would take to reach the spot I was at. He asked me for the pin I received on my phone and entered the same pin in his device before starting the journey. Then, he entered my destination in his device and proceeded without asking me the route as his phone guided him adequately.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">The <b>third example</b> is not something I experience daily. However, I believe there are many other personnel who are into such practices. It is of a telecommunication company who sent a person to my home after I complained of weak network. The person visited my house with a particular device and recorded the bandwidth I received at my location and sent it to the concerned department.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">One of the activities of the Electricity department is the <b>fourth example</b> I want to call out. My electricity consumption meter was not working well. I complained of the same. One person visited me to verify the non-functioning of the meter. He just took his phone and recorded a video of the meter and sent the video to the concerned person in order to report and confirm the same issue.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;">
<span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">Now, in all these four examples, there is one aspect that is common. The delivery person, the cab driver, the telecommunication representative, and the electricity department person – all are into </span><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue-collar_worker" style="color: #4d469c; text-decoration-line: none;"><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;"><b>blue collared jobs</b></span></a><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; color: #222222; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 17.12px;">. A few years back, it would have been hard for me to imagine all this to happen so smoothly. In all the above four examples, I personally was very pleased to receive the kind of customer satisfaction I was provided with. At the advent of technology, it looks like companies are very well training the blue collared workforce to drive customer satisfaction in a way quite effective. And from my personal experience, I can definitely say that they are on the right path.</span></div>

<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Objective: To acknowledge the art of retention of learning through teaching</span></b><br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu4YAi-akXilmmu3uLyjd_hayBzW6mC5IALnc8hHkeAIBs7wMwOmPlbgjZRaHII9aMdxyzshQfCdLBvoEFNU3WgdxN37KpMIvsPTYGvjCGwJjqq4_qxO16SgqLhgVFItJbpnJwpRbAPIO7/s1600/Picture1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="314" data-original-width="626" height="160" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu4YAi-akXilmmu3uLyjd_hayBzW6mC5IALnc8hHkeAIBs7wMwOmPlbgjZRaHII9aMdxyzshQfCdLBvoEFNU3WgdxN37KpMIvsPTYGvjCGwJjqq4_qxO16SgqLhgVFItJbpnJwpRbAPIO7/s320/Picture1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">As we know learners have been categorized under visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc. Visual being those who learn faster when they see the matter in the form of a graphic, picture, video or play. Auditory being those who learn by listening to the content through a lecture or any other way. Kinesthetic are the ones who learn well when they are engaged in physical activities. Not to forget the one type of learners to which most of us were forced to belong to - Reading/Writing.</span></b></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b>
<b>From my personal experience, none of the above type of learning appealed to me. That doesn't mean I never learnt anything or I failed to retain whatever I learnt. I was one of those students who always get a chance to teach their peers or juniors. Those days many-a-times my teachers would ask me to show the class how a sum can be solved. My friends would approach me for explanations of some or other concepts. I might have forgotten all that I have studied in school but not anything I had ever taught.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b><br /></b>
<b>Hence, I personally believe there is a lot of merit in 'creating an opportunity to teach' in order to attain retention. However, I believe it's not being used much or at all in our learning designs as a tool.</b></span><br />

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Different educationalists have come up with their models for creating a training program, assessing the training outcome, or managing the development cycle. Some companies use them individually and some use a combination of models that suit their approach. Here I am providing a list of models used or considered in a training content development process.</span><br />
<h2 style="text-align: left;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">ADDIE Model</span></b></h2>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Pedagogy (teaching children) is in
many ways very much different from Andragogy (teaching adults). To understand
the difference, we can use a simple analogy. How different is it to fill an
empty container versus to replace the content of a container that is already
full of different articles? </span><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-size: large;">Swami Vivekanand once said,
"Education is the manifestation of the divine perfection already
existing in man." And Aristotle said, "Education is the process of
creating a sound mind in the sound body." If I don't lean towards
philosophy, Swami Vivekanand's definition seems to be more about Andragogy
whereas Aristotle's definition has more to do with Pedagogy. But of course,
this is my personal view. </span><span style="font-size: x-small;"><o:p></o:p></span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Children are innocent and are
mostly ignorant of the new information fed to them. They have little to no
experience, hence are completely dependent on the instructor.</span></span><span style="font-family: "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Because children are innocent,
they don’t really think of the benefits of learning. They are more into how
much fun they can have in the process. Hence, pedagogy shouldn’t involve the
children in calling out the objectives / outcomes / benefits of the training.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Learning is like creating from scratch for children as they are learning everything for the first time.</span></div>
</td>
<td style="border-bottom: solid windowtext 1.0pt; border-left: none; border-right: solid windowtext 1.0pt; border-top: none; padding: 0pt 5.4pt 0pt 5.4pt; width: 233.75pt;" valign="top" width="312"><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0pt;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Adults have a whole lot of
knowledge and experience that they have accumulated throughout years. As a
result, adults add new perceptions to training. They help each other in the
learning process.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Adults are self-directed and
self-motivated when they know how the training outcome is going to be of
beneficial for them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Adults have a perception about every learning. Hence, learning is like reconstruction for adults. The theory of Unlearning and Relearning plays a big role in Andragogy.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">We have a general thinking in our society: "Education begins in the cradle and ends with death." While it cannot be denied, "training" has a different connotation altogether. Education or learning is a lifelong process whereas every piece of training is organized with one or few objectives to be accomplished. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">The training we are talking about are the ones that are organized by the businesses with an aim to up-skill their workforce. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">The start of the training development program is triggered by various factors. Following are some of the examples:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Business is not happy with the productivity of a process. It wants to achieve higher level of productivity to make the process profitable.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Business wants to up-skill the workforce with new technology or processes to stay relevant in the market.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">A new system or process has been introduced across the business and it is so required that the workforce be trained to get well-versed with the new aspects.</span></li>
</ul>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">There has been a change in the existing process. The affected workforce needs to be made aware of the changes.</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Once it is triggered, a Training Need Analysis (which is the first step of the training process) is performed to study all the aspects of training such as target learners, existing documentation, learning gaps, productivity target versus achieved, etc.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">Now that we know when the seed of a training development program is sown, let's discuss about where a training development program ends. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">When we talk about the end of a training development program, it should be understood as the end of one training development schedule and not training entirely. Because a business may/should identify a training need numerous times for its workforce which warrants end number of training development schedules. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: large;">We know that the training development program started with the identification of learning gap. Then, it should end after the gap is bridged. If the gap is not bridged, the training development schedule ends when the gaps in training are filled with respect to content, assessment, objectives, etc. based on the feedback received from the pilot batch after the training delivery.</span></div>
